At present, around 40% of Technicus Consulting’s turnover is generated from provision of structural design and consultancy services for projects in the offshore oil, gas and renewables sectors. It is not unusual for these projects to involve works to offshore platforms or wind turbine generators (WTG’s) where a jack-up barge is required at the interface. This is often to provide a stable platform from which offshore maintenance works can be undertaken, or for transportation of heavy equipment for construction of new offshore structures. The versatility of these vessel’s, their ability to transport heavy equipment under their own power; on-board work cranes and accommodation facilities make them an appealing vessel for many offshore work activities.
With that in mind it was with great pleasure that Technicus Consulting staff were invited to a tour of Seajacks Kraken jack-up vessel whilst it was under-going routine maintenance in the Great Yarmouth Outer Harbour. Seajacks Operations Manager, John Vingoe, provided a very interesting and informative tour of the vessel, explaining the finer details of how the vessel operates and the work it is able to undertake. This extended from the working components, such as the cranes and jacking legs, to the highly technical controls in the bridge, and on-board accommodation, catering and welfare facilities.
John’s keen interest and in-depth knowledge of the vessel, combined with his witty sense of humour, made for a very informative and interesting tour enjoyed by all that attended.
The day following our tour of the Kraken welcomed fantastic news that Seajack’s have secured a significant contract to install jacket foundations for the East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm, with the main installation vessel being their flagship Seajacks Scylla vessel. The Directors and team at Technicus Consulting would like to wish Seajacks an exciting and prosperous new year. We would also like to offer a special thanks John Vingoe for providing a superb tour.
