About Us

Technicus Consulting was established in June 2010 when Barrie Burgess, John Clare & Barry Hipwell joined forces. They had previously worked together at Fordham Parsons (which later became Fordham Johns) in Great Yarmouth during the early years of their careers, but had subsequently moved on to different companies as their careers developed.

In 2012 Kevin Buttle joined the practice as a Principal Engineer, and the companies first technical employee. Kevin was promoted to Associate in 2014, and in 2023 became a Director.

In 2013 Kevin Dunnett joined the practice as a Principal Engineer, bringing with him a wealth of offshore structural design and consultancy experience.

We pride ourselves on providing our clients with high quality, professional and cost effective design, and consultancy services for all civil and structural engineering projects. Our projects range in size from simple domestic structural alterations to multi million pound new-build developments and offshore structures.

Our friendly team of experienced engineers work closely with our clients to ensure we fully understand their specific project requirements. This allows us to develop a bespoke scope of services and fee proposal to suit the specific needs of each individual project and client, offering the best service and cost effective engineering solutions.

We appreciate that many of our clients are not engineers, and pride ourselves on providing high quality written reports, structural design calculation reports, specifications, drawings, and 3D imagery to ensure clear guidance and information is provided. This reduces the risk of misunderstandings on site or during the construction stage which can easily occur if the engineers information is of poor quality, lacking important details, or residual health and safety risk information.

Our team have a wealth of local experience and knowledge built-up over many years of working on building and civil engineering projects within Norfolk and Suffolk, and further afield in Essex, Cambridgeshire, London and beyond. However, we continue to enjoy working with new and existing long term local clients within Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Norwich, and the surrounding areas to our Gorleston based office.

Refer to our ‘Projects’ page where you can see case studies on some of our previously completed projects.

We recognise and appreciate that the most important asset of our business is our experienced and professional staff. Their experience, knowledge, motivation, and desire to provide our clients with high quality professional design and consultancy services is what makes them such an important part of the success of our business.

I found Kevin and Barrie very helpful and professional about solving our problems. Not cheap but you get what you pay for and piece of mind everything is done properly and of good quality.
I am a small local Building Company that works on refurbishing clients properties, I have worked with many structural engineers throughout my working career. My first project working with the assistance of Technicus Consulting was October 2018. Barry Burgess was the design engineer for this project, which was on a old property that had lots of structural cracks to the internal and external masonry. Barry Burgess had designed a detailed schedule of works for me to work with, this allowed me to undertake the works for my client, which included installing Helibar with resin to the affected masonry areas. All repair works was completed as scheduled, l emailed Barry Burgess at Technicus Consulting with photos of the works in stages of repair which allowed Barry Burgess to see the works where being undertaken as per his design report. This was the start of a very good working relationship with all the staff at Technicus Consulting. I have since worked very closely with Kevin Buttle from Technicus Consulting on numerous project, from just a small project to take down a internal wall for a client, to refurbishing a complete property which required major works to undertaking structural repairs to a commercial buildings. Technicus Consulting has the ability to be able to offer small building companies like my self and clients a very personal and professional service from start to finish. I also work very closely with the Building Control Team at East Suffolk LABC, as with any structural alteration to a property, they require structural calculation and a design report, so that they know that all works are being undertake correctly, this is when you mention that your have engaged Technicus Consulting to come up with a design report for the project, the Building Control Team at East Suffolk LABC have worked very closely with Tecnicus consulting and know that they will deliver a first class service. I would not hesitate in recommending Technicus Consulting to my clients From Steven Elphick Elphick Buildings Ltd LABC Reginal Winner Best Local Builder 2019

Recently had a Full Structural Survey on my new residence due to a concern in cracking; Technicus were very helpful and diligent to my needs, they were very quick in surveying the property and issued with full report within 1 week of instruction. I used Techincus for this service as I have previously used their services and they are my go to company for any building or structural works (and will be using again in the very near future)
