Exciting news! The new Colchester West depot of Enterprise Rent-a-Car is now open for business, and Technicus Consulting played a crucial role in making it happen. As the structural design and consultancy services provider to Principal Contractor Munnings Construction Ltd, Technicus Consulting transformed the previously occupied Colchester Borough Homes building into a new and modern facility. The project included internal wall removals, structural alterations, and the creation of a sleek glazed entrance and reception area.
One of the project’s highlights was the construction of a two-story vehicle preparation and wash bay at the northern end of the existing building. This presented a unique challenge, as the wash bay spanned both the existing footprint and a new front extension. To ensure stability, Technicus Consulting designed an internal, partially braced, and partially portalised structural steel frame. This innovative solution maintained the structural integrity and stability of the existing building’s cavity external walls while also forming the new extension area for the vehicle wash bay. A C Bacon Engineering handled the fabrication, supply, and installation of the structural steelwork.
Following completion of the alterations and extension works the building received a new external rendered external finish and signage in keeping with the Enterprise Rent-a-Car corporate branding.
