On the 12th July 2017 Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s Development Control Committee Councils unanimously voted in favour of the construction of Phase 1 of The Edge project. This will see construction of an 81 bedroom Premier Inn and Beefeater restaurant, together with associated parking area. This is a huge step forward for the project, which previously received planning permissions in 2006 and 2011 for slightly different schemes, both of which had lapsed.
Importantly, the Councillors also unanimously voted in favour of granting outline planning permission for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of The Edge project. This will see construction of a large entertainment complex incorporating restaurants, cinema and an indoor play area, and a large casino.
Technicus Consulting provided Civil Engineering consultancy input to support the Phase 1 planning application. This included liaison with the planners and project design team and preparation of a foul and surface water drainage strategy report, based upon preliminary drainage design calculations and site investigation data. We are currently in the process of progressing detailed design of the drainage system to support the Premier Inn, Restaurant and parking area.
Developer, Albert Jones, said “I’m delighted to have got the decision to go ahead. Lots of hard work has gone in to getting the application to this stage, but even more hard work starts here.”
It is hoped that this new and exciting development will play an important role in bringing hundreds of jobs to the area, whilst offering a boost to the local economy by attracting local people, holiday makers and traders to Great Yarmouth.
Construction works are set to start on site for Phase 1 in October 2017.
