Technicus Consulting was appointed by Hughes Sub Surface Engineering (SSE) to provide structural design and consultancy services for offshore vessel sea-fastenings for an urgent offshore voyage. The project brief involved Technicus Consulting undertaking measured surveys of the Relume vessel deck to identify structural hard-points, calculation of environmental and acceleration forces acting on the deck-mounted equipment, and structural design of suitable sea-fastenings and deck spreader beams to allow safe transport and operation of the Utility ROV (UTROV) spread. Several iterations of the design were required, due to the fluid nature of the equipment layout on the deck of the Relume.
Due to tight time constraints on the project, the sea-fastenings requirements were identified, surveyed, designed, detailed and installed within a 48 hour window to ensure that the vessel sailed on time. Close working with specialist equipment suppliers and steel fabricators ensured a practical and efficient solution.
Technicus Consulting were able to undertake the work immediately and were available to liaise with the project team, to ensure that the sea-fastenings were designed and installed within the required programme, and that the vessel sailed as scheduled.
Ian Hughes, CEO of Hughes Sub Surface Engineering (part of James Fisher & Sons Plc group of companies), reflected on a job well done: “We called Technicus in on Friday morning, they changed their operational schedule and attended the vessel within hours, working over the weekend so that the work was completed and Relume was cleared to sail on Sunday evening. I was very pleased by the prompt, professional and effective work undertaken and would have no hesitation in calling on their services again.”
