Relocation of a Demagnetizing Building
Great Yarmouth
Technicus Consulting was appointed as a sub-consultant by Paul Robinson Partnership to provide structural design and consultancy services for the relocation of an existing industrial building. The building comprised an open sided steel portal frame, with lightweight profiled metal cladding and sway stability bracing. Unfortunately the orientation of the building on the site meant that the prevailing wind would often blow rain into the building making working conditions inside unfavourable for the client’s staff.
We were appointed to carry out a structural assessment of the structural adequacy of the building in its new location on the same site, based on a revised orientation. This included carrying out a detailed wind loading assessment on the buildings cladding and supporting steel frame taking account of its dominant opening. This proved a worthwhile exercise as it highlighted some shortcomings in the original building design when assessed against current wind loading design codes.
Technicus Consulting were also responsible for design of new pad foundations for the building, designing modifications to the structural frame, and preparation of detailed structural drawings to facilitate its relocation.
