New Industrial Estate Development

Project Description

Harris Business Park

Ipswich, Suffolk

Harris Business Park is a new 18.5 acre (7.48 hectare) development situated on Hadleigh Road on the West side of Ipswich town centre. The new build commercial site comprises a range of buildings including office, industrial, warehouse and trade counter units.

Technicus Consulting have been commissioned to provide Structural Engineering services for the design of the range of units of various sizes. The buildings have different steel frame options and foundation solutions, which range from mass concrete spread foundations, to fully piled, reinforced concrete, substructures.

Technicus has long seen the potential benefits of adopting the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) software to assist with the structural design and detailing for our projects. These benefits have been proved through the adoption of AutoDesk Revit BIM software. The new Harris Business Park Development in Ipswich was one of the first developments to be selected for the full implementation of BIM for the initial six new industrial units.

The software has been used to generate a 3-dimensional virtual model of the site and buildings, from which 2-dimensional drawings have been extracted. The use of this software has offered notable time saving and stream-lining of our working practices by allowing our drawings to be updated automatically once the model has been revised or modified. Isometric views, general arrangements, elevations, sections and details drawings have all been produced from the one 3-dimensional virtual model.
