Technicus was employed to provide structural engineering and building surveying services for the extensive refurbishment and extensions to the public house.
The works included large extensions to provide entrances, a restaurant, kitchen, toilets and function area. The scheme adopted a steel frame with precast concrete slabs to the roof deck. The frame allowed the elevations to maximise the glazing to provide a light interior, with open arrangement. The deck to the mono pitched roof provided external accommodation for the landlord’s flat.
The refurbishment involved the introduction of an extension to the existing basement, with tanked retaining walls to provide alternative access to the existing beer cellar.
Internally, the look and feel of the pub was enhanced by the introduction of large steel picture frames, and other steelwork, to support the structure, allowing the bar areas to be opened-up into an attractive space.
The scheme involved the introduction of reinforced concrete foundations and underpinning to achieve the client’s aspiration as a modern pub and restaurant, sympathetic to its rural setting.
Technicus designed of the surface water disposal system and advised on the strengthening of the existing structures.
